A Sample Menu
The "lunch lady" (that's me...) would like parents to know that she carefully builds menus that offer nutritional options in all of the food groups.
We are part of the Provider's Choice Food Program who helps us do just that!
They say a child's stomach is the size of his/her fist. Therefore serving meals that pack a lot of "good fuel" for their bodies is a must. Here is a sample of one of our weekly menus:
MONDAY
Breakfast: French Toast, Strawberries, & Milk
Lunch: Spaghetti, Corn, Cantaloupe, Milk
Snack: Goldfish Crackers, Milk
TUESDAY
Breakfast: Bagel w/ Cream Cheese, Banana, Milk
Lunch: Pigs-in-a-Blanket, Peaches, Green Beans, Milk
Snack: String Cheese, Ritz Crackers
WEDNESDAY
Breakfast: Scrambled Eggs, Toast, Applesauce, Milk
Lunch: Tacos, Peas, Pineapple, Milk
Snack: Yogurt, Blueberries
THURSDAY
Breakfast: Cereal, Orange Wedges, Milk
Lunch: Turkey & Cheese Sandwich, Carrot Sticks, Apple Slices, Milk
Snack: Animal Crackers, Hot Chocolate
We do indulge in the occasional pizza, chicken nugget or mac-n-cheese day along with celebration desserts during birthdays and holidays. I am a believer that these foods are perfectly fine in moderation but opt for healthy versions of these beloved kid items when possible.
